Leela Chitnis

Leela Chitnis an actress of old movies (9 September 1909 – 14 July 2003) Virgo.Her father was a professor of English and associated a Marathi Theatre company called Natyamanwantar. Leela was one of the first educated film actresses.

Leela ChitnisShe took birth in Dharwar Karnataka. She began her career from an early stage her first work work was comedy Usna Navra in 1934 then she began as an extra in stunt films.

Times of India publicized her as first graduate society-lady from Mahrashtra. Leela was leading lady of Bombay Talkies and she formed a wonderful pair with Ashok Kumar . Leela was very much talented in fact she impressed every one with her outstanding acting skills including Ashok Kumar. It is very surprising to know that for 22 years she played the role of mother including Dilip Kumar.

Leela Chitnis created the archetype of the Hindi Film mother in the year 1941 she was the first Indian Actress to endorse Lux Soap, she left the world at the age of 93.She tied a knot to a much older man named Dr. Gajanan Yeshwant Chitnis at an early age of t5 or 16.Some of her movies are:
